1979 Trans Am 10th Anniversary
This iconic 10th Anniversary Trans Am was recently acquired from a father and son who cared for the car over 25 years. It is a numbers matching 10th Anniversary car with the 400 engine and 4-speed manual transmission. All anniversary cars were fully loaded with all available options: Power windows, power locks, A/C, power trunk release, Ws6 suspension package, special silver leather interior with “shag” carpeting and special paint / decals. Out of the 7500 production cars, only 1,817 were equipped with this 400/4-speed combo.
This example has 86,000 original miles. It starts easily with no smoke and runs well. The 4-speed transmission shifts nicely through the gears. Registered and driven yearly and wears a current NY inspection sticker.
The floor pans and chassis are in excellent condition with no structural rust. The body is also in very good shape with only a small spot of rust inside the driver side door and some surface rust in the trunk hinge area as shown in photos. The original mirrored t-tops are present and in good condition. They are accompanied by the storage case shown in the trunk.
The interior is very presentable with new silver leather seating and door panels which are very costly restoration items. The problematic original tachometer is not functioning but all other gauges work as they should. Replacement tachometers are readily available for these cars as all originals seemed to fail.
This car has benefited from years of careful, seasonal use which makes it much more viable than a car that sat idle for years. It is a great “restore as you drive” candidate that can be enjoyed right away this spring.
