SOLD 1979 Mercedes 450SEL 6.9

SOLD 1979 Mercedes 450SEL 6.9

King of the Road 450SEL 6.9: This elegant brute represents the Mercedes flagship model for the year: 6.9 liter OHC V8, climate control, power windows & sunroof, Front & rear heated seats, Cruise Control, central locking system, adjustable hydraulic suspension. This was the 3rd most powerful production car in 1979, behind Aston Martin and Lamborghini. Sticker price of over $50,000.

The vehicle was purchased from an Estate, and the original owner’s maintenance records were not located for the sale. It was not sitting idle for years in a garage, it was driven sparingly over the last 6 or 7 years and maintained well. I do have some more recent maintenance records. The front leveling valve was replaced this fall due to a leaky shaft seal. The suspension stays up for a few weeks when the car is stored.

Just under 97,000 miles on the working odometer.

This well preserved original car was just treated to a European bumper & lighting conversion to bring it back to the look Mercedes intended for it. At this time a complete repaint was also done in the original Anthracite Metallic. Rust-free body and undercarriage. Excellent interior free of cracks or damage. All systems function properly. The suspension promptly raises 4″ when you pull the knob above the Steering column.

The 6.9 liter V8 is an amazing powerplant that will push you back in your seat and put a smile on your face. The engine starts and runs very well, with no hesitation or rough idle issues. Smooth and instantly responsive to throttle input. Most would never guess how much fun it is to drive one of these cars! The self leveling adjustable hydraulic suspension keeps the ride pillowy soft but remains stable at high speeds and in tight turns.

A genuine Nardi steering wheel kit, and paint-matched BBS wheels are available for this car
