1969 Mercedes 280SE Coupe

1969 Mercedes 280SE Coupe

In 1969 the wife of a New Jersey Surgeon walked into a Cadillac dealership to buy herself a new car. The dismissive salesmen were not interested in showing her a car without her husband present, so she left and went right to the Mercedes dealer where she purchased this 1969 280SE.
Stunning in white over red leather, this coupe was acquired from the original owner who cherished it and kept it garaged for 46 years.
Original options include power steering, Kuhlmeister air conditioning, power windows and column shifted automatic transmission. Registered and driven seasonally until 2012 this example has 124,000 original miles shown on the working odometer. The 2.8 fuel injected engine starts easily with no smoke and idles smoothly. It runs, drives and stops well and has benefited from a lifetime of regular maintenance.
The exterior has been repainted once in the original code 050 White and shows some evidence of previous minor repairs. Any and all rust on the body and chassis is carefully shown in pictures. These cars are notorious for rusting but this example is in very restore-able condition.
The red leather interior is original and complete. Stains and cracking in the leather are shown in photos and the front seats are torn in a few places. All gauges function properly and the power windows work as new with no regulator issues. The dash is very presentable and woodwork is all present. The curved wooden dash top shows some water damage on the outer edges.
Under the hood is very presentable. There are no substitute parts or missing pieces. Note the complete A/C hoses and compressor assembly. There will be no chasing down missing parts when it comes time to restore this Mercedes.

With the value of these cars rising rapidly, it seems the only W111’s available for sale are basket case project cars or fully restored examples for over $40,000. This is a highly optioned, numbers-matching, one owner Mercedes coupe that you can drive while it is being restored. It does not need expensive engine, transmission or fuel injection work which puts this project car far ahead of one that was neglected for years or stored outdoors.
