1966 Land Rover Series IIA Restomod : “Jank Rover”
After viewing some of the previous Land Rover Restomod builds, a customer from Austin TX contacted us about his 1966 Series IIA affectionately named “Jank Rover”. His goal was to keep the awesome patina and vintage look of his Rover while upgrading the power, comfort and reliability for daily use.
We have swapped in 200tdi and 300tdi drivetrains before and for nearly the same price you can get a brand new Cummins r2.8 crate engine which is more reliable and much more powerful; we decided to make the Jank Rover our test bed for the R2.8 Cummins swap!
We purchased a crate engine direct from Cummins which is backed by an upgraded AX15 5-speed manual trans. We used the stock Series transfer case (Rebuilt) and kept it in the stock location so the shift levers all match up with the floor & everything appears stock.
We upgraded to power steering using a P38 Range Rover box & custom components made in-house which allows use of the original banjo steering wheel & column. Forbyn Bros. provides the front disc brake conversion utilizing Defender 4-piston calipers & vented rotors. We converted to 3.54 ratio differentials using Defender diff assemblies and high strength rear axle shafts from Forbyn Brothers.
Air conditioning is a must in Texas, so engineered a custom A/C system for this truck as well.
8/1/2020 : This truck is now back home in Autsin TX and the owner is enjoying it tremendously. This is one of the best driving Series IIA Land Rovers out there.
Please contact us if you are interested in having your own project build by us.
