This gorgeous 280SE was ordered new from Germany by an American couple who imported the car to the U.S. in 1986. This light weight and more powerful fuel injected coupe was only available in Europe and was ordered with a long list of options:
Air conditioning, power windows, tinted windows, rear window defogger, leather seats (with front orthopedic foam), heated mirrors, power RH mirror, power sunroof, alloy wheels.. and the list goes on.
Once imported stateside this Mercedes lived a pampered life in Charleston S.C. until 2014 when it relocated to the second owner’s lake house in upstate New York. This car is truly rust free with no evidence of previous body repairs of any kind. Repainted once in the original Ocean Blue Metallic, the body is amazingly straight and shines beautifully. No dings, dents or wavy paint here: the finish is near showroom quality.
The original black leather interior is in matching condition: nearly perfect with no rips, scuffs or split seams. The seats are comfortable and everything is working as it should in the passenger compartment.
Mechanically This car is also in excellent shape: The 2.8 twin cam straight six starts easily, idles smoothly and pulls hard through all four gears. Brakes, steering and suspension are tight and in good working order with no unusual noises. This Mercedes has just completed a 400 mile trip performing flawlessly.
All records have been retained including the order forms sent to Germany, import documents and EPA testing certificates etc. Recent documented repairs include a rebuild & retrofitting of the A/C system, major tune-up, valve adjustment and rebuild of the driveshaft flex joints.
This is a collector quality vintage Mercedes and the rarest model of the legendary W123 chassis. Highly optioned, in a striking color combination; This is the right one to own and enjoy for another 30 years.
