This 1940 Plymouth Coupe is a beautifully finished street rod powered by a 354ci Hemi V8. The current owner has owned the car since the 1980s, and performed all of the present modifications during their ownership.
The seller found the 354ci Hemi as an NOS crate motor, which had never been installed in a car prior to going into this Plymouth. The engine is unmodified, and is backed by a GM Turbo 400 automatic transmission. The car starts easily and runs very smoothly.
This Plymouth performs very well on the road, with tight closing doors, and very good fit and finish throughout. The owner liked using the car as a cruiser, and fitted it with a 2.73 rear end for comfortable cruising. At normal road speeds the car is very quiet inside, with a slight rumble transmitted into the cabin. The front suspension is independent, and the owner converted the front brakes to discs.
The interior is nicely trimmed, with modern power seats, integrated seat belts, and power windows. The dash has a custom aluminum face with Autometer gauges. A custom headliner is fitted, and includes a recessed panel with chrome trim.
The bodywork is mix of original Plymouth and custom touches. The roof has not been chopped, and clear reproduction glass is fitted. Much of the stock trim has been retained, including the beltline trim, grille, and enameled Plymouth badging. The headlights are deeply recessed into the front fenders. The paintwork is deep and glossy, with a rich finish.
